So far what I had in my mind about BIOS update was "STAY AWAY WITHOUT RUINING YOUR PC" because it was a bit difficult process(few years back it was done using only the command line). If you do even a simple mistake it might cause you to throw away your mother board. So I didn't even look at it.
But today when I was trying to install Windows 8.1 on my n5110 laptop it said "Windows 8.1 cannot install on your pc. Please update BIOS". So I had no option but to update BIOS.
By default, n5110 comes with A09 BIOS version. And the updated version A11 is available for this laptop.
In order to flash BIOS you need to have the binary file (exe file) provided by Dell inc. To obtain that file go to this link .
Then select "Start Here" under "Support for Home"
Then you will have to provide your service tag.
After that you will have to select Drivers & Downloads from the below screen. And under Operating system, make sure to select BIOS.
Then it will show the updates available, select the latest and download.
Now the scariest part. All you have to do is double click on the downloaded file and click next. Everything will be done automatically. Easy right??? Well I was so afraid to update BIOS, but I just got realized that with the time, even BIOS update got easier. And don't forget to plug your laptop into a power outlet as any power interruptions may cause DEATH to your laptop..
I hope you got everything. I'll try to capture a Screen-cast if I got a chance with one of my friends laptop. But till that, please bear with the post...
Hello please help appreciated

Hi you don't have to be scared to update BIOS. Few years back I also was scared but they have provided exe files to update the bios where we have to do nothing but just executing the application. Make sure you have power connected to the laptop.
ReplyDeleteSteps are similar to this tutorial.
Well i have successfully update bios A07 to A11 i have dell N5110 i3 laptop with 4gb ram and 500 gb hdd
ReplyDeleteStill confused after bios update window 10 will work on my laptop or not??
Hi Rashad,
DeleteHave you installed Win10 in your Dell? I tried last week but showed the BIOS compatibility issue. If you are successful with the updated BIOS then I will try. Hope to have your suggestion.
Thanks.

Great. Good to hear that you updated BIOS without any hiccups. If dell.com says that win 10 supports A11, it should definitely work. Good luck
DeleteWell how do i know that With A11 bios update it will tun window 10 how to contact dell or i have to wait and don't cancel reservation of window 10???
ReplyDeleteI don't think you have to cancel the reservation. Even if A11 doesn't support Windows 10, Dell will soon release a update which supports Windows 10. Hopefully A11 will support Windows 10.

I still haven't updated myself to Windows 10. However noticed that lot of people are facing the issue.
ReplyDeleteI found an answer (Confirmed to be working) in the dell forum. I'll quote the steps below.
1)windows update (check/nothing downloaded)
2) restart
3) re-flashed A11 bios
4) restart
5)clicked Get Windows app icon (failure/BIOS isnt supported)
6) shut down / removed battery / wait / start
7)clicked Get Windows app icon (Success)

I have update the bios on my dell N5110 laptop to A11 bios. Ensure that ALL windows updates are applied to your laptop and then use the Microsoft Creation Tool to download the files for windows 10 upgrade and the rest will follow. Upgraded to windows 10 with the only issue at the end when the desktop appear was that Dell Stage required windows 7. Change Dell Stage to windows 7 compatibility mode reboot no further error message and happily using windows 10.
ReplyDeleteGreat

DeleteMy guess is that it is a temporal issue. Try manual restart and re flashing the bios. Meanwhile try to contact the dell support as well. Hope things will go smoothly for you.
DeleteAhmed Taha, did you try the 7 steps above?
ReplyDeleteAlso, does anyone know what is meant by RE-FLASHING bios?
